Other times, he just gets really frustrated. He pokes the food and it won’t stay on the fork. At that point he goes back to the tried and true stand by, his hands. Notice that he is still holding on to the fork even though he is not using it. We have found that he is good with cut up hotdogs and tortellini but that is about it. Everything else just ends up on the floor with the plate that doesn’t actually suction to anything. I guess this is one of those practice makes perfect situations.

Using a fork is hard work
I don't remember when I learned to use utensils. It was obviously so long ago that I don't remember when it all started. With that in mind, I thought that we had put off giving Tommy a fork for too long. So, last week we went to Babies R Us and got a plate that suction cups to the table (it doesn't work so it is doing us no good) and a fork with rounded edges so that he can't poke out his eye or mine.
He is always pretty excited about the fork when we first give it to him. He likes to bang it on the table until the food comes (good thing that we have a cheap Ikea table). So the food comes and he makes the attempt.
Sometimes he succeeds, so Matt and I cheer for him.

Ok the plate was my doing sorry about that. It would probably work on the highchair tray. It won't take long and he will be using a fork like a pro!
